Winter Vacations Announced for Students in Kashmir Division: Check Details

Srinagar: Winter vacations for schoolchildren in Kashmir are now almost certain to begin in the first week of December, with the Education Minister Sakina Itoo confirming that the government has taken an initial decision to close schools for primary and middle classes as temperatures continue to dip across the Valley.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the Minister said the department has been closely monitoring the weather pattern for the past several days, and the early arrival of harsh winter conditions has made it necessary to advance the break for younger students.

She said several parts of Kashmir have already recorded severe cold, making it difficult for children to attend classes comfortably.

Sakina Itoo added that the government recently held a detailed review meeting to assess the ground situation, the preparedness of schools, and the safety concerns reported by parents.

According to her, the priority is to ensure that students, especially those in lower classes, are not exposed to health risks during the ongoing transition into peak winter.

The Minister said that while the final order will be issued shortly, the direction is clear that primary and middle schools in the Kashmir division will begin their winter break in the first week of December.

She also indicated that the decision for higher classes will be taken separately, depending on weather conditions and academic requirements.

Officials in the department say that the early cold wave, combined with sub-zero temperatures in many regions, has pushed the administration to take precautionary measures earlier than usual. The formal notification is expected soon once all departments conclude their assessments.
